Frequently Asked Questions
Permanent makeup is predominantly safe. However, individuals with certain medical conditions should avoid getting these procedures unless they have clearance from their physician. These may include diabetes, lupus, autoimmune diseases and certain heart conditions, especially for those who have a pacemaker. It’s always better to be safe, so please talk to your doctor if you have any concerns. But most individuals enjoy our beautifying procedures without any problems.
Allergies to permanent makeup are rare. All of our inks are (non-toxic) medical grade, vegan and hypoallergenic, However, possible allergic reactions in some people may be triggered from the use of metals from the needle, certain tattoo pigments that contain metals, and lidocaine. Most people with allergies, including those to food, skin sensitivities and seasonal issues are perfectly fine with permanent makeup procedures. But because your well-being is our primary concern, we recommend that you discuss any allergy worries with your doctor.
The results last 1-3 years for The Ombré Powder Brows, 1-3 years for the Lip Blush, and 3-5 years for Lash Enhancement. A one year touch up is recommended to refresh the color for all permanent makeup procedures.
While a little discomfort during the procedures may occur, I always apply a numbing agent to the area reducing sensation by about 80%. I also recommend taking Tylenol 30 minutes before the procedure, which will also help to relieve any tenderness in the area. Important note: Please do not take any type of ibuprofen before your appointment.
The entire appointment takes about 2-3 hours for new clients and 1-2 hours for touch ups. Lash Lift and tint usually take around 45 minutes.
Clients will need 4 weeks to heal from the Ombré Powder Brows, 6 weeks for Lip Blush, and 5-8 weeks for Lash Enhancement. Once fully healed, clients can come in for their touch up appointments.
People who are not good candidates for PMU are individuals who are:
- Under the age of 18
- Pregnant or nursing
- Diabetic (can get the procedure but must be controlled)
- On Accutane (must be off of the medication for at least 6 months)
- On blood thinners (can get the procedure but may not have the best healing results. Blood thinners can cause excessive bleeding which pushes out the pigment )
- Undergoing active chemotherapy (please wait 6 months after completing treatment)
- Individuals with skin conditions (eczema, rosacea, dermatitis, shingles, etc.)
- Prone to keloid scarring
- Have had Botox/fillers in the area. PMU can be done 4 weeks before or 4 weeks after Botox/fillers.
Brow waxing or plucking is not necessary.
Yes, you can still have a lip treatment. While Lip Blush can cause a cold sore breakout, it is very rare. I recommend to all of my clients to start taking the L-lysine supplement a week before your appointment to prevent cold sores. For clients who are prone to getting cold sores, I advise taking an antiviral medication from their doctor 5 days prior to the appointment. Blisters can cause the color to peel off in those areas, so please take this extra precaution to avoid this from happening.
For your safety, if you have a fever blisters or cold sores outbreak at the time of your permanent makeup session, you will be required to reschedule. Your PMU session will need to be completed when you are fever blister or cold sore free.
At Permanent Makeup By Millie, we take great pride in our beautiful, safe work space and make sure that the area is cleaned and hygienic before and after every client. We follow all NYS Department of Health recommendations. Needles and other objects which have touched blood or body fluids are disposed of after every client. Your health and safety are our primary concern.
Absolutely! However, PMU must be done 4 weeks before fillers or 4 weeks after fillers.
Yes, just as long as the PMU is done 4 weeks before botox or 4 week after your botox session.
You should avoid any makeup in the treated area during the healing phase. You can resume wearing makeup on the treated area once it has fully healed.
For Powder Brows, I recommend A and D ointment. For Lip Blush, A and D ointment, Aquaphor, or coconut oil is perfectly fine to use. Apply a thin layer of the product whenever lips or brows feel dry . I do not recommend using any healing products for Lash Enhancement as I prefer the dry healing method.
While your lips will likely be sore and swollen immediately after the procedure, the discomfort will ease and swelling will go down around 6-12 hours after your Lip Blushing tattoo treatment. You can apply a cold compress to the treated area but it’s important to make sure the compress is sanitized or wrapped in a sterile wrap.
In most cases, individuals with darker skin tones can get Lip Blush. However, we will first need to start by neutralizing the lips (canceling out the dark/cool undertones of the lips). This can take several sessions. Once lips are fully neutralized,we can then deposit the color that you choose. While we do our best to give you the look that you want, please keep in mind that results are not guaranteed. Also, 3 sessions may be required for darker skin tones.
Do not drink alcohol 24 hours before your procedure.
Corrections or touch ups on other artists’ work depend on many factors. In order to appropriately assess this possibility, I would need to see you first to determine what we can achieve. Feel free to send a clear, unfiltered picture [email protected] or schedule an in person consultation. Call: 201-218-3571
Please refrain from eating 3 hours after the procedure. Avoid spicy, hot, oily, or highly colored foods from touching the lips and take small bites until fully healed.
